Pattern: "Daisy" by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee Source: Summer 2003 issue of Knitty
Started: August 8, 2009 (en route to Madrid)
Finished: September 19, 2009
Gifted: September 20, 2009
Size: between 0-3 and 3-6 months
Modifications: Nicholas is kind of small for his age so I made up an in-between size: using a smaller gauge than the pattern called for, I CO for the 3-6 month size and made the lengths closer to the 0-3 month size.
Yarn: 2.5 balls of Knit Picks Swish Worsted (110 yards yds per 50g ball; 100% Superwash Merino Wool) in the "Deep Ocean" colorway
Needles & Gauge: between 5.5 and 6 sts/in on #5 needles
I made the plain, hoodless version of Daisy and called the cardigan the "No-Daisy Daisy" while I was working on it. I picked out the pattern months ago for my nephew/godson and I gave it to him at his baptism on Sunday. It fit him perfectly and his parents (my sister and brother-in-law) seemed to like it a lot.
I cut it really close this time. I washed & blocked the body of the sweater on Thursday night; finished, washed, & blocked the sleeves on Friday night; and did all of the finishing on Saturday morning before heading to NJ. I thought the finishing would just take a little while but it took me over 4 hours to knit the collar, seam and sew on the sleeves, weave in all of the ends, and attach the buttons. Who knew?! I wanted to get to my parents' house around 4:00 but didn't leave until about then and just made it to the restaurant in time for my brother-in-law's birthday dinner. The next morning we got up and went to the baptism so I cut it very close indeed. *phew* I'm so glad it all worked out. :)p.s. I don't know if they want his face on the internet so I cropped the picture, which is a shame because he makes the most adorable faces!! (I love his little pudgy cheeks.)
